I have little doubt none of you thought this would be talked about seriously. Well as of today you can play SW:ToR up to level 15 with the same types of Restrictions WoW has for trial accounts. This has the full list of Restrictions for SW:ToR. I first got wind of FTP (Free to Play) early last month and downloaded the client–all 25GB of it. Back then, it was only being hinted at. No doubt they’re taking the same approach WoW is by letting people experience the content and leaving them to decide if they want to commit to a subscription or not.
There are a couple of obvious differences though, among them being those who go with WoW’s get access to the Burning Crusade’s Faction-specific starting areas (now free with the base game, hence why it’s simply called Starter Edition), Dungeon Finder and you can level to 20 with 9 of the 10 classes current available (The Death Knight Class introduced in Wrath of the Lich King, which requires an existing level 55+ character on your account to create excluded) in live and use 10 of the 12 races (Excluding Worgen and Goblins, who require the current expansion Cataclysm to play). At level 20 you will be able to buy a mount (except Paladins and Warlocks, who automatically get a class-specific mount at levels 20 and 40).
Anywho, if you wanna try SW:ToR go check it out. I know I will. I have a rule of subscribing to one MMO at a time and since WoW has that slot indefinitely, I doubt I’ll go past the Trial in SW:ToR. I’ve been looking forward to trying it out at the least so I know I will like it.
