BEST IN THE WORLD!
“Join the Revolution”, the backside of the box says.
For nearly a year the WWE hyped the latest game released by the primetime king of sports entertainment on their respective RAW and Smackdown TV programs. Said hype exploded into the stratosphere when WWE Champion CM Punk unveiled (wait for it) himself as the cover superstar. In hindsight CM Punk’s Heel Turn on Raw #1000 makes alot more sense–further reinforced by the TV Ad featuring him.
WWE 13 boasts a stable of over 100 Superstars past and present. Speaking of the past, the game’s “main event”, so to speak is its “Attitude Era” Mode. Relieve that magical period in WWE history (1993 to 2002) in which they stomped the sh!t out of the “Say Your Prayers and Eat Your Vegetables” Era before it. Having grown up watching Monday Night RAW (and then RAW IS WAR) it’s a trip down memory lane. Of course we can’t forget the Attitude Era ultimately gave the WWE the win over its then arch rival WCW/ECW/NWO, which was bought out by the McMahon family at the turn of the century (written into the WWE’s storyline as a family feud between Vince McMahon and his children Shane and Stephanie).
Who can forget the epic rivalries of that time: Shawn v. Bret (“Shawn screwed Bret!”), Undertaker v. Michaels, Austin v. McMahon! I can go on and on. WWE spared no expense with this game so if you have fond memories of that period you’re gonna love this next part: the ORIGINAL AUDIO was used for Attutide Era Mode in an effort to keep it authentic. For a game that boasts a stable of over 100 Superstars and Divas it better!
Speaking of superstars, here’s a partial list of who’s in the game. I bought the game yesterday so forgive me for the shortness of this list:
- The Undertaker (Current and Attitude Era Versions I’ve seen so far)
- Brock Lesnar (No, seriously)
- John Cena
- Shawn Michaels
- HHH/Hunter Herst Helmsley (same person, real name Paul Leveck and married IRL to Stephanie McMahon)
- Michelle McCool (recently marrie The Undertaker IRL)
- Austin 3:16
- The Rock (current and Attitude Era versions)
- Kane (Current and Attitude Era Versions I’ve seen so far)
- Mick Foley (Mankind, Dude Love and Cactus Jack)
- CM Punk
- AJ Lee (announced as a DLC Character. Not released yet)
- Daniel Bryan
- Big Show
- The Miz
- Alberto Del Rio
- Randy Orton
- Wade Barrett
- Booker T
- Jerry “The King” Lawler
- DDP (DLC)
- Kharma (DLC–on Maternity Leave IRL, announced last year in RAW)
- Rikishi (DLC)
- Beth Phoenix
- The New Age Outlaws
- Road Warriors
- Cody Rhodes
Again, that’s just a partial list. Me personally I don’t mind paying Microsoft Points to unlock Superstars. I expect this game to replace WoW as my at-home after work time killer. Since I obviously have a personal bias in favor of the WWE and this game, I’ll wait a month before rating the game. I should be broken into the game by then.
By the way: WWE13 wasn’t he only game I bought last month. I will have my first impressions of the 3DS game I bought at the same time as this one tomorrow afternoon. I WILL give you a review of that game’s predessor in a few minutes, though. When you see the game you’ll know what the new game I bought is.
