This week’s “OOPS!” is brought to you by SEGA!
Ahead of the presumed E3 Announcement, Sega released this picture for the new Sonic Amiibo. What’s more interesting is the 3DS game pictured on the right: Hyrule Warriors 3D.
This is good news for me for two reasons: This was the game I was gonna buy a Wii U for. The news means I save $300! It also means getting my main 3DS fixed just moved up on my list of priorities this month ^_^
Before I forget, here is the announcement video:
As you can tell, the same cell-shaded graphics used in Super Smash Bros. 3DS is used in Hyrule Warriors 3DS as well. Tetra from Wind Waker and the Red King were revealed in the video as playable characters in the 3DS version, too. If the end of the video is to believed, Young Link (from Ocarina of Time and Super Smash Bros. Melee) might be an unlockable character as well. Hyrule Warriors, in short is Dynasty/Samurai Warriors but with characters from The Legend of Zelda games.
The internet’s been going CRAZY when this broke yesterday. Mostly for Ryu but yeah. The funny thing is people have been asking for Roy as soon as SSB4 was announced. He’s announced as a DLC character and people call his induction a waste of a slot? Folks don’t want to be happy is all I can say.
There is also confirmation Ryu ships with his iconic stage from Street Fighter II. Of course, this isn’t the first time Ryu and other Street Fighter characters have appeared in a multi-franchise game. In fact, Ryu himself has appeared in the most:
- Marvel vs. Capcom 1, 2 and 3 (With fellow Capcom Star Mega Man)
- Street Fighter vs. X-Men (Who remembers this classic?)
- Street Fighter x Tekken
- Capcom vs. SNK 1 and 2
- Capcom vs. Tatsumoko
- Super Smash Bros. 3DS/Wii U
…And there you go.
The only one left is Mortal Kombat. 20 years and fans can still only dream. It’s the only one left: Street Fighter vs. Mortal Kombat. Make it happen, Capcom and Nether Realm!
Anywho, Lucas was released as a DLC character earier this week. Capcom reportedly wanted Ryu on the roster from the beginning but Nintendo requested Mega Man. It sounds like Ryu and his level were prettymuch so we could see Ryu and Roy by the end of the summer. This is also the first time we have seen two characters in SSB from the same third-party company (Capcom): Mega Man and now Ryu. If Konami wasn’t looking to go moble, I’d say Sold Snake (Metal Gear Solid) and Simon Belmont (Castlevania series) are the obvious next picks. Instead, I’m going with Lloyd Irving from Tales of Symphonia or Seigfried from Soul Calibur (Folks might remember him from Soul Calibur Legends). Or if they wanna throw a curve ball, they might be able to make Scorpion from Mortal Kombat work like they did in Injustice: Gods Among Us (PS3, Vita and Xbox 360).
Roy being released to me might be the precursor to possibly another Fire Emblem Character being brought in. For those thinking “We’ve got Marth, Lucina, Roy, Ike and Robin now. Who else is there?”, one other character made an appearance in Robin, Captain Falcon and Lucina’s introduction trailer: Chrom.
It’s the obvious next choice from Fire Emblem in my book.
