First-Look Review: Dungeon Travelers 2 (PS Vita)

The game will have the Mature Rating.

I still can’t believe Atlus is bringing this in the U.S. The game’s main selling point isn’t the game itself but the fan service. No, really. In fact, Atlus censored FOUR images (gasp! how dare they!) so the game could be released in the U.S. and Europe with the Mature rating.

…Much to the chagrin of the anti-censorship crowd.

I really don’t get people who get off complaining about VIDEO GAME being slighly censored just so they can play the localization. Developers simply can’t win: First it was games not coming at all. Then, it was translation. Now it’s clearly pornographic images being modified just so they can be sold in certain regions.

Here is one of the pictures that were edited for the U.S. Release:

I’ve seen the uncensored version and of course, I played the demo. In the scene, the MALE main character wakes up to find his companions in bed with him. In the uncut version, they’re naked. The Japanese audio and text are unchanged and it’s obvious they were clearly meant to be naked.

Here’s the thing that pisses me off about the Anti-Censorship Community: This was left unchanged. I’m not showing the image here because it’s NSFW and it’s clearly sexually explicit. The one I showed is suggestive as-is.

…By now, you’re probably wondering what the game itself is about. The fan service IS what the game’s about. No, seriously. This game a boarderline Ecchi, boarderline Hentai and Lolicon sprinkled on top. Ugh…honestly, I’m disgusted by this game almost as much as those crying about the four censored images. FOUR out of who knows how many.

Where was I…? Oh, right: Other gamers have said the demo’s good for 7 or 8 hours but I cleared it in about 3. Like Atlus’s Etrian Oddyssey Untold games, your progress in the demo can be carried over to the full version. The game will be released Tuesday, August 11 (next week) on the Vita. I will NOT be getting it. Mostly because I got EOU2 yesterday but also because in MY opinion, the fan service ruins the game. I know alot of folks will disagree with me on that but that’s my position.
